He motioned with his left hand at the girl as she walked by his table, his head still down looking at his journal. “More coffee?” she asked motioning toward his empty coffee cup, briefly stopping on her way to the counter. “Yes and keep it filled”, he muttered at her with an air of annoyance. “Sure thing”, the young waitress replied as she bounced away to the counter grabbing up the coffee pot. “Anything to go in it?” she inquired as she refilled the mug, smiling in that vacant way too many people have that have not really experienced life. Jesus H. Christ, he thought to himself, how hard is it to remember after three days that he only took his coffee black except for the occasional Irish whisky he would spike it with. “Just hot, strong and black. NothingContinue reading… The Writer
Or rather, where was I? Yes, I know it’s been two years since I posted anything here. Bad times for me, but life is beginning to look up. I am currently working on a short story, which I will post here when it’s completed. It is a combination of a science fiction/love story. I hope you enjoy it. The beauty of summer, even in the desert country. My hobby, in addition to writing, that is photography. Saturday I decided to try and capture some of the beauty that surrounds me. Sunflowers are in full bloom around my house, so I decided to see if I could freeze time. I also wanted to try macro photography and see what I could accomplish. Overall I am happy with the results, but I know I have a long way to go.
And here we are on day 4 novels. I’m actually on a 3 day, because I didn’t really start writing until Saturday. But that doesn’t get me off the hook for the number of words. I’m a little behind I hope to catch up in the next couple of days and maybe get a little buffer. In the end, life is not on vacation due to NaNoWriMo. Here’s the next installment with a reminder that it is without any editing. This will come in the next month. ———- Gen. Duran celebrated his second in command, drifting on the bridge. “The thought that you will find your way up here. Michelle tell you everything that’s going on? ” “No, Sir, except you have her call us up a day early and prepare for the round table in a couple of hours.Continue reading… NaNoWriMo-part III
OK, here is the next installment. As before, this is a first draft, very rough and not edited at all. That will come next month after I’ve got this finished. You have been warned. ———— “Yes, Major,” she responded quickly moving to the hatchway to leave the bridge. The Corporal caught herself on the hatch frame and spun around to face her commander. “Sir, you do realize it usually takes four hours for full alertness coming out of hiber-sleep? The team might not be at their best for the meeting”, she stated fully expecting what the response would be. Without hesitation Major Duran said, “If anyone does not seem to have fully come out before the meeting, you are authorized to use stims. I need them fully present. We have a lot to go over with little intel at thisContinue reading… NaNoWriMo – Installment II
As promised, here is my first installment of the story I'm writing for novels. I can't promise that there will be daily updates but updates will be very often. That is, if life gets in the way. So for fun you I give you in the beginning of "Duran" dilemma. A reminder that this is the first project with very limited editing. I tried to catch spelling errors and grammatical mistakes, big but it's a very rough draft. You have been warned. ————— Mayor Michael Duran studied expression on the face of Lieutenant Nguyen switch back and forth between absolute concentration and perplexing. After watching the performance major Duran broke the silence, which has hanging on the bridge, "is there a problem with my ship, Lieutenant? It is practically brand new, so don't tell me that you've broken something. "Continue reading… NaNoWriMo-part 1
Sorry for my lack of postings over the last month. October was not a good month for me. I let myself slip into a State of self-pity and it's hard to be motivated to do much of anything to feel bad for myself and my perception of life. But, life is too short, and that it is time to stop wasting time and go back to what I want to do, which is a record. With this in mind, national novel writing month, or NaNoWriMo for short began at midnight this morning. For those who don't know what it is mostly the competition itself to write at least 50000 words within 30 days. This is not a novel but rather make you a long way down this road. This non-profit organization supports those who want to write as well asContinue reading… Excuse my absence and NaNoWriMo!
As I mentioned in my previous post, not taking advantage of the choices and opportunities in life because of some fear only leads to regrets later in life. This may seem scary at the time, but it is much better in the long run take these chances. Of course things may not turn out how you wanted. But at least you can look back and say that you tried. Regret not having tried everything that he was there would be no later. Time finicky hostess and very rarely is these features again. Snatch them while you can. I have very few regrets in my life. Those with significant, at least for me. This is not to say that I lived a life of wild and reckless. If I ever tell my story many would probably find it very dull andContinue reading… Life's too short (part 2)
Although this website was mainly for me to post things about my work and related, original thought to name many years ago was a place to talk about things in the world and in the life the way I see it. This post and will be different, but I'll try to have more on my writing. As I called it, life is too short, and it is all too true. A lot has happened to me in the last two or three years. I will not bore you with the details, because that's not what's important. Important lessons I've learned, hence the name. And I wanted to share this with you the results of these lessons. Life is too short. An opportunity not to knock twice and after the time no, it's really gone. You will never get it backContinue reading… Life is too short
Something I read today; “If I refused to learn from people unless I agreed with everything they had ever said and done, I would never learn from anyone.” A good bit of advice to consider. Unfortunately, it seems in today’s politically correct world too many people completely shun others with whom they do not completely agree. No one wants to consider another’s point of view or discuss the pros and cons of either side of an argument. It is either “my way or it’s wrong”. You see this from the highest level of government all the way down to John Q. Public. Wouldn’t the world be a much better place if we all would step back and consider that what we hold so dear might have faults or even be completely wrong?
This is another short-short story I wrote a couple of years ago. You might notice that it is not sci-fi which is my general comfort zone. Both of these were submitted to a contest for stories of 1500 words or less, hence the extreme brevity of the stories. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did writing it (even though I think it really is a piece of garbage). So sit back for a couple of minutes and take a read. “What are you doing here? Why do you keep coming back into my life?” Angeline’s heart jumped into her throat. The coffee she had just taken from the counter threatened to spill over her hand she shook so violently. I know that voice, but from where? Oh, my God! It’s him. Turning in the direction of theContinue reading… Scent of Home
